Weights of Fleeces.
The results of the scouring of the competing fleeces in the Deniliquin grand champion challenge prizes (writes " Bruni " in the Australasian), affords an admirable illustration of the progress made by the sheep-farmers of Riverina, In the final contest for fifth challenge prize the highest greasy weight of fleece was 191b OJoz, which yielded 81b 10£oz of scoured wool The winning fleece, exhibited by Messrs Austin and Millear, Wanganella, weighed 181b soz, scoured to 91b 3£oz, and was valued at 12s 11 5-16 d. The highest scoured weight of wool was from a sheep shown by Mr F. S. Falkiner, Boonooke — namely. 91b 12^02. Ofthel4competingfleeces " the lowest valuation was 8s 11 13-32 d, for 61b 14Joz of scoured wool. In the competition for the first year of the sixth challenge prize the weights of wool cut by the two tooth rams competing were even more satisfactory. Mr F. L. Parker, Quiamong, stands at the top of the list, his fleeces being placed first, second, and third. One of his sheep cut the heaviest fleece in the contest — namely 171b 2oz which scoured 81b 12ioz, and was valued at 12s 0 57-64 d. This fleece gained first place. It is not so • . many years ago that a two tooth ram yielding as much greasy wool as this ram gave of scoured wool would have been regarded as an excellent merino eire. Oddly enough ' the lowest values and the lowest weights of wool in this contest are those from' Messrs - Synnott and Co.'s sheep, which occupy the lowest place in the list. These are the only non-Biverina sheep competing.
