The Government have received a telegram from Auckland to the effect that an assay of ore fiom Fuhipuhi silver mine, made at Wairongomai, To Aroha, gave at the rate of 26 ounces to the ton. The Minister of Landb considers it probable that this return is more correct than any other that has been submitted.

j\lr John Dillon and Sir Thos. Esmonde addressed a meeting in the Chrisbchurch Theatre Royal last night. Sums of ss, 3& f and 2s were charged for admission to different parts of the house, but it was nevertheless densely crowded. The audience consisted mainly pf Irish people, large numbers of whom came in from the country districts. Many ladies were present, and showers of bouquets were thrcwn on to the stage. Mr W. B. Ferceval, M.H.R., presided. Mr Dillons etatemeut of the case for Home Rule was very attentively listened to, and he was enthusiastically applauded. Sir Thomas Esmonde spoke briefly, replying to the criticism of the opponents of Home Rule, and was warmly received. The delegates were presented with addresses from the reception committee and the Hibernian Society, On the motion of Mr W. P, Reeves, M.H.R., seconded by Mr J. Oammook, it was unanimously resolved, " That this meeting oonsiders Home Rule necessary for the welfare of Ireland, and the best means of securing true union between the different parts of the British Empire." A collection was made and realised £350.
