A BAY OF ISLANDS VIEW. RIGHT OF CHRISTY TO PROSPECT. Kawakawa, Dec. 3.
People here generally are glad to learn that Mr Wilson, Thames Mining Inspector, has been ordered to Puhipuhi to report on the field. All here are surprised afc the apparent ignorance of the correct locality of the present silver find, which is north of No. 3 block, Puhipuhi State forest, and on the Tangiapakura Kiver, leading irom Waiotu river. It is in Kawakawa riding, Bay of Islands County, while the whole of Puhipuhi is in the Bay of Islands electoral c. It 13 ten miles from Taumarere Railway Station and twelve from Kawakawa Railway Station. Forebb ranger Uansed has now been here four days, awaiting instructions re pro* secuting Captain Christy as a tiespasser. This gave a venturesome few a splendii opportunity to get into Puhipuhi on Sunday and up till now. 1 have seen Christy's permit giving him a license for 12 months from October last to prospect on blocks 3 and 15, so that there is something strange about the proceedings, probably a bungle, especially as Mr Humphries, the Crown Lands Commissioner, in refusing Mackenzie and Company's application for a lease, which I have also perused, clearly states "The licen&e of those men (original four prospectors) now working there hasexpirert, but on account of their application for a lease, they are allowed to remain a little longer so that they may get out more stuff for testing. It is thus easily seen who has the right to continue prospecting." It is estimated that a substantial bridge across the Tiraonga for dray traffic woul i only cost £300. Afc present there is only a foot of water at the crossing. No other bridging is required. The County Council have taken the matter in hand.
