LABOUR Y. CAPITAL SPIKE NAILERS ON STRIKE. CONCESSION TO MALTSTERS. SHIPOWNERS' COMBINATION. London, November 19.
The men employed in the manufac* ture of spike nails at Worcester and Stafford have struck for an increased rate of pay. The brewers have conceded the demand made by the maltsters for an advanced rate of remuneration. The General Steam Navigation Company and London Coastwise Companies threaten to cause an early suspension oi the coastal trade in consequence of the demands made by their employees for increased wages. Tillets, Chairman of the Wharf Labourers' Union, is organising the dock labourers at Hamburg, with a view to their working in harmony with the Union in London. A congress of Trade Unions of Great Britain will be held in January next to elect representatives on the Federal Council. The refusal of a dozen cleiks and foremen employed at the Tilbury docks to join the Dockers' Union is likely to cause a strike of sixteen hundred dockmen belonging to the Union who are now employed there. Measures have been adopted by the strikers with the view of preventing outsiders being engaged in their stead. The London dockers have resolved to close the Union entrance lists for a time.
