OTAMA CLAIM (KAOTUNU). November 18.

A meeting of shareholders in tho Otama claim, at Kaobunu, was hold yesterday in the Thames Hotel. Mr M, Kiccol wan in the chair Mr Howe, mining surveyor, made a very favourable report on the prospects of the claim. He had examined it and found tho giound very good. lie had obtained 3 or 4 tons ot good dirt; but as there was a talk of putting up a battery in the disbi iofc he thought it would be foolish to send the stud round to the Thames, liehad made a pretty thorough examination of gbhe ground, and found several good reefs, in all of which gold showed freely. Besides the three or four tons ot picked diibho had obtained several tons of fair general dirt. The general opinion oxpressed among the shaieholderss was that the leporb, for a first, vvas an exceedingly attractive and encouraging one. On the motion of Mr (Joleman, Mr Cameron was appointed secretary and treasurer of the new company. A committee of the following gentlemen was then appointed : — Messrs J. Mays, Coombes, Coleman, J. F. Logan, Western, Rowe, and 1\ Hayes. On tho 1 ecommendation of Mr Howe, it was decided to invite bendeis lor another drive, which would probably pay its way, and would open up a coneideiable amount of ground. There was plenty ot fund 1 ? available for the work. • It was resolved on the motion of Mr E. McWilliams to continue the prospecting of the mine under the supervision of Mr Howe as heretofore, the question of Mr Howes remuneration to be left to the Working Committee. It was also resolved that Mr Rowe have the power to take up an additional ax-ea of ground in conjunction with the Working Committee. Mr Howe said that a battery was about bo be erected, and it would be better to wait for it than to send trial parcels round to tho Thames. The Chairman said that was probably the bept plan. The object was not to create a value for shares, but to thoroughly test the ground. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
