TRIAL TRIP OF U.S.S. NIPSIC.

This storm -tossed and historic war-vessel, afterundersoing needed repairsontheMarine Railway, says a Honolulu paper, -has been lying at theP.M.C.'s whavt for the past few days taking on board her armament, supplies, etc., and on Friday, as announced, she made a trial trip to ascertain the working of her machinery and her sailing qualities. Admiral Kimberly arrived on the wharf about 9.30 a.m. and immediately proceeded on board the Nipsic. The vessel's head wa3 then swung seaward by the tug Eleu, and the gallant vessel steamed out of the channel in grand style under a two-third head of steam. She rounded the bell-buoy w.ith undiminished speed, which t upon calculation was averaged at 9 V knots. The propeller made 60 revolutions with 54 pounds of steam. The machinery was not in any way heated, nor was any strain observable that might have been caused by being on the " ways." The boilers were found to be in good condition and in place, and .the pipes were without leak or damage. Diamond Head was passed and Coco Head •• opened " when the vessel was put about, and she came back to port with out a hiich during the whole trip. On entering the harbour she took her position in naval row.
