CANADA AROUSED CHINESE IMMIGRATION NOT DESiRED. London, October 7.
Remonsstraxcls are being received from eminent men in the Dominion protesting against the removal of the restriction now in force again3t Chinese immigration into Canada. The matter has aggravated the provincial wrath, already sufficiently aroused by the sealing squabble, to the highest pitch, and influential members of Parliament are already being appealed to to oppose the removal of the barriers against a Chinese invasion afc the next session of Pai'liament. On the other hand, the merchants at open Chinese ports have informed the Government that unless the Chinese are treated as human beings by England the latter can have no grounds for complaints if discriminations are made against her subjects that will have a crushing effect upon the trade of England with the Celestial Empire. The English colonists at Hongkong and other ports are wealthy and influential, and will spare no trouble and expense to put the question before Parliament in the most favourable light.
