A CANADIAN LINK. THE ANDERSONS UNABLE TO SUPPLY STEAMERS.
The Dominion Government has received a cablegram from tho Messrs Anderson of London confirming the statement that they had found themselves unable to fulfil the contractthey provisionally entered ki to with the Government of Canada to place a fleet of fast ocean steamships, averaging 18 knots per hour, on the routo botweon Canada and England. No reason is assigned, the Andersons stating chat a lull explanation has been forwarded by mail. The Canadian Parliament at its last eesbion, voted .c(i500,000. c (i500,000 to be given annually as a subsidy toward* the establishment of a fast line service to run in connection vvi f h the Canadian Pacific, which the Andersons were to receive for their weekly service. In official circles it is 3tated that the Canadian Pacific will now take the matter up on its own account, and place a lleet of ocean greyhounds on the Atlantic to run in connection with its own road and the Pacific Ocean steamers plying between British Columbia and China.
