BOXING TOPICS.
Tun latest pugilistic news from London, October 19th, is to the effect that the boxing match between Slavin, the Australian, and Bill Goode, the middle-weight English champion, for £400, was the best thing of the kind seen in London for a long time. Both men behaved splendidly. Slavin is nob considered scientific, but is a hard hitter, while Goode stays and takes punishment like* Tom Sayers. Jackson was training on the 19th for his match with Jem Smith. There is a little betting at even money, Jackson slightly the favourite. Slavin has accepted Jackson's challenge to fight, any style, ten rounds, or to a finish, with gloves or bare knuckles, London rules. Tom Lees has also put up £50 as a guarantee to fight Jackson.
" You seem at homo here," remarked a. man ab the post office to the postmaster*.' " Yos," replied the latter, " this is ms». stamping s»romul."
