The dock labourers have passed a vote of thanks to the Melbourne "Age," South Australian " Advertiser " and Sydney "Telegraph" for their .sympathy and support in the recent struggle against the dock companies. It was decided that the surplus should remain in hand until November next, in case of a breach of faith on the part of the dock owners. There is a slight friction between the firemen on the Orient and New Zealand Shipping Companies steamers and Seamen's Union. Earl Granvillo and the Marquis of Ripon confirm the remarks delivered by Mr Gladstone at Hawarden, that the recent strike is pregnant with hope ior the future of labour. The dock companies are making efforts to induce the dock labourers to become permanent hands at a pound a week, but the Union has refused to sanction the posalMr Tillet, Chairman ot the Labourers' Union, is oiganising the Bristol dockmen.
