Thus a Sydney scribe : — The best " form" by far that Manton has displayed in Australia was shown in the A.J.C. Craven Plate. Half a mile from home he appeared to be outpaced, but he came again when called upon and finished second in front; of Sinecure and Melos, both of which he jjave many lengths' start to in the last three furlongs. Considering that he is not nearly "ready," he ought to give a good account of himself ere long and quite uphold his New Zealand reputation.
