* ' Prohibition Oudbk, William Rickards was charged on the information jo L'Geonje Lucas, that lie, by tlte excessive drinking of liquor, mispends, wastes, nnd lessens his estate, and greatly injures his health ; to which charge he pleaded guilty. An application was made by the Police for a Prohibition, Order to be issued on behalf of the same party, who- expressed a wish that such should be issued. The Bench made an order forbidding; all- licensed publicans within the licensing districts of To A roll x and Wai'oa to supj^y liquor (o William Rickards, for tlio ensuing twelve months. • Unlawfully ' on Premises : Owen Gayer, was charged with being found by night without lawful excuse in ihestabW of W.S. Collins, Waiorongomai, on the night of October 2nd. The -Police hi this case asked for a remand on the ground that the accused had only been arrested lute the previous cve 1 i lg, and consequently they had not had, sufficient time to prepare the c.'Se for the prosecution. Accused applied to be allowed out on boil. The Bench decided to accept bail, accused in L5O, and two sureties of L 25 each ; but told accused his sureties must be able to. satisfy them they were possessed of sufficient goods in their own right which could be levied on if such a course were found necessary. Eiding on a Footpath : Thomas 1 Williams was charged by " John Dare, Inspector of Nuisances to Te Aroha Town Board, with riding on the footpath in Rewi-street. on the morning of October Ist. Williams pleafied guilty, but stated he was on horseback at the time, driving in another horse, which endeavoured to break away, and it was- when trying to head the horse back he rode a few yards alonir the path. The Bench stated that seeing Williams had only recently come to To Aroha, and might not be aware of the law, against, riding on the footpaths,, they were inclined to take a lenient view of the case, and would let him off this timo withi a caution, withoiH costs.
