PRESBYTERIAN WORK. ASSISTANCE FROM THE LAITY.
At the meeting of the Auckland Presbytery this morning, the Rev. Mr Macky gare notice of a motion that has an important bearing on the work in Presbyterian churches. The motion is as follows :—: — '• That the Presbytery, acknowledging with thankfulness the services which have been rendered occasionally by Christian men of our own and in some cases of other denominations in supplying our pulpits and in doing the work of evangelists generally without the olHcial recognition of the Presbytery, and believing that it is desirable that) the Presbytery as such should know and recognise all those throughout the bounds, whether elders or private members, who are endowed with a talent for public preaching and who are otherwise approved, and should endeavour more systematically to utilise and encourage the development of their gifts, appoint a" Committee to meet with them from ' time to time, an.d along with them to make arrangements whereby they might co-operate with ministers in conducting 'services in congregation and mission district?." Mr Macky said h© should like members of the Presbytery toconside'r the matter carefully, as ii meant giving these free lances official recognition, somewhat as in the Wesleyan Church,
