A FORTUNATE PURCHASE.
The Hon. J. White has no cause to regret the day he planked down to the Auckland Stud Company 1,200* guineas for MartiniHenry. With the colt he secured the ambition of every sportsman — a Victorian Derby and Melbourne Cvp — and at his first season of stud duties he sired 6uch a trio as Singapore, Rudolph and Sinecure, the two latter being the champion two-year-olds. To still further add to the great record,at their initial attempt Singapore and Rudolph ran firstand second for a Derby. This wants some beotine. It was only fitting that Mr Thomas Morrin should be present at Randwick on Saturday to witness the race, and i feel certain that he was the most delighted man on the course, for it was through his influence that Mr White secured Martini-Henry when a yearling.
