FURTHER PARTICULARS. Wellington, Sept. 28.
It is understood that there are two parcels of gold on board the Koranui — one from Hokitika, value .-£9,480 ; the other from Greymouth, value £11,520. It is insured for the full value with bhe New Zealand Company, which has part of the risk reinsured. The vessel had on board 380 tons of coal, 10 tons coke, 1,150 firebricks, and 30 tons of general cargo. It is stated here that tho amount of insvrance on the Koranui ih £4,000, distributed over Now Zealand offices. Captain Bendall, secretary of the Underwriters' Association, leaves for the scene of the wreck to-morrow. The Rotorua arrived about 9 o'clock with the Roranui's passengors, and left again almost immediately for the North. There is little to add to what) has already been telegraphed trom Nelson. The explanation of the accident seems to be that the vessel got too far before altering her course for the French Pass. The weather was thick, and the steamer had been going dead slow, but when the mistake was discovered and the light seen »he was put about and wont at full speed. She did not strike on the Beef Barrels, but on a patch of sunken rocks fringing tbe Barrels, which covers about five acres. She lies in about 60 feet of water, only the tops of the masts showing.
