Twelve paces were stepped oft, when at the signal Williamson emptied his five barrels in succession afc Calhoun, whereupon Calhoun again demanded an apology. After consultation an understanding was reached, when Calhoun fired the remaining barrels in the air and the parties separated. By direction of. Governor Gordon, several officer were detailed to arrest the parties before the affair, but they were unsuccessful.
