MINING NEWS. VALUABLE GOLD FINDS. VERY PROMISING DISCOVERY. ORE OVER £100 PER TON.

Auckland, September 20. An extremely promising report of the prospects of the Sylvia Goidmining Syndicate's mine, Upper Tararu Creek, Thames, has just been made. Dr. Scheidel, general manager of the New Zealand Gold Extraction Company, Newberry-Vautin process, yesterday afternoon informed a meeting of members of the Syndicate, held at Mr S. T. George's office, Shortland-street, that he had visited the Company's mine in Tararu Creek, and congratulated the shareholders that he had found in their mine a big lode of very valuable ore. The state of the mine prevented him from making a thorough inspection, but he and Mr Edward McDonald were appointed by the syndicate to make a further visit and furnish a report with detailed information as to the prospects of the The new finds are likely to be of very great importance as tending to revive Thames mining. The ore, Dr. Scheidel says, is of a complex character, but is of great richness, and of a nature never previously worked or treated at the Thames. Dr. Scheidel cannot place a definite value on the ore as yet, but he gave it as his opinion that it was worth much more thaa £100 a ton. He will inspect the mine thoroughly and make further tests of the quartz. Hiß report will be looked forward to with great eagerness by those interested in mining and in the welfare of the interests of the Thames and the Auckland district generally..

Thames, September 20. Paroquet G.M. Co. — In the course of the proceedings at the Warden's Court yesterday, an application was made by Mr Miller, on behalf of the Paroquet G.M. Co., that the mine should be protected for two months. Mr Miller explained that the object in asking for protection was to enable the Company to realise and make the best of a bad job. The Company had paid £5,000 cash for the mine, while the bank book showed that £3,600 had passed through it in connection with expenditure on the mine, which, with £700 debts, made the total amount paid and expended by the Company £9,300. The Warden granted two months' protection, as applied for. There was also an application by the Paroquet Company for protection for a similar period for the machine site and two water races, but an objection was lodged by Mr Melhose for non-working. Mr Miller appeared for the Company, and Mr Kenrick for the objector, and, by consent, the .application was adjourned until the 3rd of October. Dives. — The mine manager wires to-day : " Shot down reef in winze ; colours and dabs showing ; 121b picked stone, bangingwall leader; gold still showing." Claim for Damages.— The case of Alfred W. Sawyer v, the Caledonian G.M. Co., being a claim for £500, for injuries sustained in March last, was called on at the Warden's Court yesterday. MrPurchas appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Miller for defendant. Upon the application of Mr Purchas the hearing of the case was adjourned until the Bth October. New Licensed Holdings. — The following licensed holdings were granted at the Warden's Court yesterday : F. W. Brown, City of Glasgow and City of Edinburgh, Owharoa; T. H. Russell, Nut, Waih i: E. McDonnell, Eomulus, Upper Tararu ; A. Schiedel, Remus, Upper Tararu. The Waihi G.M. Co. obtained four months' protection for the Monmouth and Nut holdings. Cambria — This morning themine manager wired: "Crushed 28 loads general quartz for 61oz. retorted gold. Nine loads were from the rise in the main reef, yielding 11 ounces. Eighteen loadsfl tailings yielded nine ounces retorted gold." Royal Oak (Coromandel). — Since last report work has been progressing but slowly, owing to the hard nature of the ground. There has been but little change in the reef, which is still keeping two separate walls. There is about 40ft more to drive to cut the Poverty reef, where the tributers not good stone in sinking on the junction, but were prevented from gettingdeeperowingto too much water. The tributers have crushed what quartz they had on hand from No. 2 reef, three bags of general stuff and 121b of specimens giving a return of 13oz lOdwt retorted gold.

September 21. Reuben Parr.— The total return obtained by the tributere was 2240z 6dwfc melted gold. Cambria. — Cleaning up took place yesterday for the return of 81oz retorted gold, which was reduced on melting to 78oz 16dwt. Included in this is another trial lot of 19 loads from the rise on the main reef which yielded satisfactorily, producing lloz gold. 28 loads of quartz from other parts of the mine gave 61oz sdwt, the remaining 9oz being from tailings. Dives. —This mine is situated in the Karaka Creek district, and is owned by several Auckland and Thames shareholders. A winze is being sunk on the reef, and when breaking down yesterday colours of gold were seen in the quartz, and about 121b of picked stone saved from the hanging-wall leader. There are now about 351b picked stone on hand. Trenton.— The drive from No. 4 level of the Cambria has not yet holed through to the Saxon pass, but a day or two should see communication effected. The country in the drive from the bottom of the Company's own shaft is a slightly improved class of sandstone. Lone Hand. — The country in the General Chute drive at the low level is about the same as usual. The Moa reef was cut today in the General Chute drive at the low level, but no quartz has yet been broken down. Cleaning up took place to-day for a good return of 1340z. lOdwt. retorted gold. Of this 46 loads quartz produced lOOoz, and 151b picked stone 340z 10 dwt. gold.
