New Zealand Exhibition.
At thelnst meeting of Piako County Council the following civcular was read from Mr A. J. Ouduvui, M.H.R., Chairman of of the Golilftokls and Mines Co.nimittee :— " The Goldfields and Mines Committee of the House of Representatives arc of opinion that the mining industry of the colpny should be properly represented at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, and, as this enn only be done by tho exertions of mine owners, inin,e managers, and miners, individually and eollectivoly, we desire to aak you to assist us by urging upon those residents of your district who are interested in any sort of mining the necessity of taking steps to have your mines and minerals fairly represented. The Legislature has made provision in tho New Zuuland and South Koas Exhibition Bill to unable local bodice to devote a portion of th^ir funds in aid of the work. Exhibits may be of any de>cription of mincial, and could include models of mining machinery, plans and photographs of mines, .an,d anything else likely to promote find advanco the mining iudubtry of the Colony," A circular, as follows, was read at tha same meeting, from the Chairman of Hie Mining and i\t etallergical Society .— "Permit mo to bring under your considers
tion the importance from every point of view, particulaily fiom un educational one, of having all mineral exhibits brought together in one Couit at the coming New Zealand and Ronth Seas Exhibition, and the great disadvantage it will be to the Colony at large to have the miuerals scattered over the building in each local court or bay. I trust, therefore, you will use your influence to have the Mineial Exhibits from your district shown in the Mineial Court. It is not intended that Mineral Exhibit* should lose their identty, but that the various counties display .should he classified together, and it is intended to place euch county's name ovor its own individual collection. To meet the difficulty, and enable minerals to be exhibited in the Mineral Court and local bays also, it was suggested that duplicates should be sent, but I fear this would entail too inncli trouble to be depended on, consequently I usk your special consideration of this matter. I will feel obliged if you will let it be known that the Commissioners have made arrangements for the assaying of any minerals sent to Exhibition for that purpose, und that the assay is not confined to gold an,d silver ores!"
