THE GRAND HANDICAP. Sydney, September 14.

The latest quotations on the Hawkesbuiy (Jrand Handicap, run to- mono w, are : -5 to 2 against Lamond ; 6 to 1 Ellerdale ; 8 to 1 Touchstone ; 10 to 1 Bustler ; 12 to 1 Bernardo.

From tho annual report of the Kapanga CS.M. Co., Coromandel, for the year ended August 31st, 1889, we observe that the tutwork done during that period amounted to 2,322 feet, and under the heading "Stopes " ib is stated that 1,569 tons of quartz had been raised and treated, resulting in 594 tons less than last year, arising from the stopes falling off in value, and to the curtailment of stoping to payablo quartz. Tho average price of gold obtained during the year was about C 2 17s 7d per ounce, or 7d less than last year, although during the last nine months of the year the greatest price on record, C 2 18s lOd, was realised. The avorage price was reduced by lurge returns of low quality gold, containing more silver than usual, at the beginning of the year. The quartz for the year averaged 2oz 12dwt 4'igr, whilst the amalgam yielded about one-thjrd-gold. It is also stated that fche Government has granted the Company a new title for 21 years, viz. : 4. Special Claim. The area of ground remains unaltered— 6o acres, Tho Company have now the best title they can hold, and it effects saving of about £73 per annum. The manager anticipated cutting the Kapanga at the 550 feet in another 20 feet ot driving. His couise then would be to drive south to come under the most promising reef below the 500, about 70 feet from crosscut. Ho also intended to resume the 420 south on Scottys, estimating that with this level they could quite double their sections of ground under their rung of gold ere another year.
