[From Oar Own' Correspondent.] The first monthly meeting of, che newly" • elected Waitoa Road Board took place afc the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, on last Saturday. Present : Messrs W^Chepmell, J. Horrell, and J. 'JWhull. MrChepmell was ap|)oinfced Chairman and Treasurer, and A- Brenmer was appointed Clerk and Collector. The correspondence submitted for consideration was unusually lar^e, and contained a considerable number of replications for road woifcs" to be undertaken. "' It will be utterly impossible for the Board - to undertake all the works applied for. Repairing the damages caused by the '' late heavy floods has been expensive-, work. The accounts passed for payment amounted to £195 Us 3-d, leaving the Board nearly £100, in debt. amount of debt, coupled with the fact that the present ratable value ;f the dis-. tricfc is about £100,000 less than the previous valuation, necessitates 1 the Board very reluctantly to make a halfpenny rate, which will produce abont £540, ex-, clusiveofrateson Native lands, which will amount to about £3G, bub this, however, 'must be spent on works for the ben.efi.tof 'the Natives. The members of the Board decided to, go over some of the principal toads in the district, to inspect and decide what works to uinleitiike when the rates come . in.
