Dean, late Town Clerk, was brought up at tho Police Court to day, before Mr Northcroft, BM. Mr Willininson, Grown Prosecutor said there were numerous chargos of forgery and embezzlement against Dean, bat it was only intended at present to proceed with a few, so as to ensure his committal for trial at tho Supreme Court criminal sessions, which commences e«rly next month. It was probable that other charges would then I o laid against the accused. Dean was to-day indicted upon three charges of embezzlement of monies belonging to Thames Borough Council, amounting to £30 16s. When placed in the dock he appeared careworn and pale, bat daring the hearing of evidence seemed to listen intently for the prosecution evidence, ijiven by Patrick Mclntyre, Cr Renflhaw, Or McAnirew, Wrn. Laurie, and U. McDougal. In response to the usual challenge Dean said he desired to apply for permission to examine all the books ami paper* connected with tho charges made against him, so that he might produce rebutting evidence at tho Supreme Court, and would reserve his defence until then. Dean was committed for trial.
