PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL AT TE AROHA.

A very successful plain and fancy dress ball (Mr 1». Millett, promoter),, was held irt Te^ioha public Hall on Wednesday last. The weat)jer*f!|Vunpropitipas forthe attendance <ft- ithose liviag at a dietance, bufc $ipte was a largeassemblage for .all itW, fally sixtycouple baing present. The Hall was. very tastefully decorated for the occasion,, and a large number of Chineselan terns arranged at intervals round the Hall added to the attractiveness of the scene. The decorations were carried out by Mr P.. Faes, vrho is quite an adept in such, matters. Nearly all present were in eveningdress, very general disappointment having been experienced owing to some misunderstanding on the part of the agent in Auckland, and consequent non^arrivat of fancy costumes, which mistake was not discovered in time to have the matter rectified prior to the ball ; in fact^ fully five- sixths of those present were in evening dress, The ball opened with the Grand March, Mr H» Mace acting as M.C., and carried out the duties con-* nected with his office during* the evening in his usual efficient style. [Dancing was kept up with spirit till midnight, after which there was an interval of about an hour for supper, whioh was laid out on tables down the centre oi the HalU The catering was entrusted to Mr •J. Hart, who carried oat his duties in & manner that gave very general satisfac-* tion. Burins the proceedings Mr Millett, as promoter of the ball, thanked! those present, «nd expressed his great; regret at the unfortunate mistake whioh had occurred in connection with the ordering of fancy costumes from Auckland* Shortly after supper dancing was again resumed, and kept up till nearly day-^ light. The music was provided by Mr Williams fpiano), nnd Mr Adolph (violin), in a manner very creditable to. these gentlemen. During the evening several songs were sung, and Mr R. Forsman danced a hornpipe in good style. Altogether the ball was. pronounced a great success.
