CRETE AHD THE BALKANS. Constantinople, August 3.
The Porte expresses anxiety at the position of affairs at Crete and also in the Balkans. The muster of 80,000 of the reserves has been ordered. The Turkish reserves are being mobilised. The Turkish army is divided into the Nizam, or activearmy; theßedif, or reserves, and the Mustaphiz, or Landsturm. The strength is calculated at — Nizam : Cavalry, 37,800 ; artillery, 37,800, with 1,512 guns ; engineers, 18,000 ; infantry, 468,000 : total, 588,600. Redif, 203,000 ; Mustaphiz (including irregulars), 370,000, making a total of 1,161,600, with 3,348 guns.
