MINE MANAGERS' QUALIFICATION. TIME TO BE EXTENDED. Wellington, August 3.

According to the Mining Act of 1886, it is provided that after a certain date only duly qualified men can hold mine managers' certificates. The time in which they can qualify will be up in about a fortnight, and only a very small number of men have qualified to hold certificates. In consequence a regular howl has gone up from Mining Companies, and various petitions have been presented on the subject. The Government have decided to be advised by the recoinuendatkm of the Goldfields Committee, who will probably meet on"Monday or as early as possible. Their recommendation will take the form that the time for qualifying should be extended to a year ; but as the qualification is reqrired by statute, the Government will give effect to this by ordering that no prosecutions should be instituted for infringement of this clause of the Ace for another year.
