SIR GEORGE GREY'S AMENDMENTS.
PROPOSED REPEAL OF THE ACT. EFFORTS FOR A COMPROMISE.
Sir George Grey now tells me that be purposes bringing- in his amendment in the form of an Act, entitled "An Act to Sus pend the Representation Act Amendment Act, 1887," and to limit each elector to one vote. He will thus drop the proposal Lo repeal the Act and obtain a dissolution. It is said there are 53 members willing- to suspend the Act, but it is not likely to meet with the approval of the Government. The country party hold a meeting at 2 o'clock to-day to see if they can arrange a compromise.
