Kahangahake, Thursday. Gorgb Koad Deviation : Messrs Kelly and Polton, contractors for this work, made a start on Tuesday, at the township end of the road. A large number of men are employed under the supervision of Mr H. Trezise, who has received the appointment of Foremannof Works. Fire : A whare belonging to an elderly man named John Purvis was burned down on Wednesday afternoon. The owner being working at some distance had no time to save much, and with the exception of a few articles of bedding, he lost everything, Cassel Experimental Plant : I learn that the different parcels of ore treated at this plant gave a good result, and the mnnager expresses himself satisfied that the process will be suitable for any of the ores in the district. Cassel Gold Extracting Oo.'s Main Working Plnnt : In spite of wind and wenther the works on the hill are rapidly approaching completion. The tank shed is nearly finished, and the tanks are all ready to put together. A few weeks should see the whole in working order. Crown, Q.l/l. Co.: The contractors for
sinking tho winze are still in good ground, and making capital headvvay. The low level is still being driven ahead in good looking country for gold. Other parts of tho mine are as usual, A good deal yefc remains to be done to complete the connections between mine and battery, but now that the weather has improved the progress of the work will be greater. The Mining Inspector (Mr George Wilson), arrived here on Tuesday, and after inspecting some occupation licenses recently applied for, left for Waihi on Wednesday. New School : The £25 guaranteed by the residents not being forthcoming yet, no move has been made towards the erection of the building.
