MERCER EMBROGLIO.

The Hon. Mr Fergus, Minister of Defence, expects to receive the report of the recent inquiry held into the Mercer volunteer scandal to-day, when he will at onoe consider it. Mr Ward has moved to have the evidence, reports and correspondence in connection with this affair produced, but Mr Fergus stated this was notready yet ; so the motion was withdrawn. Previous to this the Government had intimated their intention of opposing the return.
