Mr Barrons motion for the reduction of the property tax by one farthing each year, | and the meeting of any deficiency by re- i trenchmenl, with Mr Moss's amendment condemning the tux, was reached yesterday afternoon just before the five o'clock adjournment. A motion by Mr Guinness to adjourn the debate for a fortnight was lost by 45 to 25. On another division being taker, the amendment was carried | by 00 to 11. Mr Seddon then I moved another amendment in fa\our of substituting a land and income tax from i the 30th September, 1890, and the exemption of agricultural and mining machinery in the meantime, but no opportunity was given for members even to express an opinion on this, as the adjournment interrupted the debate.
