KAIHU VALLEY RAILWAY.
Wellington, July 18. Tin: otherday,Mr E. Thompson received alla 11 apparently satisfactory reply to a question as to what securities the Government hold for the interest on the bonds of the above Company. The answer was a long one, to the effect that certain lands were held as security ; but this has brought down the following questions from the member for Marsden, which he is to give notice of this afternoon : (1) What is tho area and title of the land owned by the Kaihu Valley Railway Company that was mortgaged to the Government on the 3rd of January, 1887, as security for guaranteeing the debentures issued by that Company ? (2) what was tho estimated value of the land and by whom valued? (3) wheie is the land situated ? (4) has the morogage been registered and on what date?- (5) was the mortgage deed prepared by the the law officers of che Crown or submitted to them for perusal and appt oval? (6) how much of tbe money raised by the sale of the debentures has been handed to the Company, and what arrears of interest, if any, arc now due ? (7) is it true that the Company have no title to a large portion of theland on which the railway has been constructed ? (8) what amount of land lias the Government handed over zo the Company as an endowment, and what quantity of kauri timber is ib supposed to contain ? (9) in case of default has the Governor the power to enter and take po^ssesion of the endowment ? (10) has the Company been supplied with rolling stock of the Government? if so, at what cost and has it been paid for ? The questions make insinuations of a very peculiar character.
