No, for the men who grace ourtime Stand forth in. nobleness sublime, * With deeds to deck our modern day. What though his work was never blo V)ri With trumpet's blast in stirring tone Along the alley-ways of fame? Yet deathless splendours shall enshrine And glory wave her torch divine O cr David Sutherland's proud name. I need' not tell the tale you knbw, Of how he faced his fiendish foe Amid the silent scenes of night. No friendly hand was there to aid, s As with the ruffian undismayed He grappled in his fearless might; Why sudden startsthat crimson stream 1 Two shai'p reports with vivid gleam, And then the foul assassin fled. v> His victim sank beneath the ball, He gave his life at duty's call. All honour to the hero dead.
