Lawns. The grass edging can now receive the usual spring paring with the edging knife. See that a proper line is kept, and recollect that one of the great charms of a place where the edgings are grass is that the sharp definiteness of these edgings will bell considerably in the appearance of the place. If the edgings are broken or badly cut it will give the whoJe place an untidy look. The grass on the lawns will be starting to grow. See that it is cut frequently, so as to keep it from getting drawn, as it will then get thin and yellow on the bottom, whereas if cut frequently the bottom will get thick and matted. Only use the roller when the soil is in a comparatively dry
state, never when it is wet and sloppy, When in- this state the roller will injure it, and it is always better to wait for a fewdry days before applying the roller. On lawns which were top-dressed or newly made last autumn allow the grass to get about -three inches in height, then cut with the scythe, roll, and apply the mower afterwards.
