COAL MINES FLOODED.
JiAWAKAWA, July 15. After a tremendous downpour of rain during the past three weeks, it is no wonder that I have to report that water got into the mines and flooded all hands out last week, but every effort is being made to clear it off by pumping operations. I expect it will take a week before the coal getters have a show at work.
An illiterate farmer, wishing to enter some animals at an agricultural exhibition, wrote to the secretary as follows: "Also enter me for the best jackass ; I'm sure of taking the premium." Father : " I hear, my boy, that you have latoly told your mother several falsehoods. This grieves me to the heart.- Always tell the truth, even though it may bring suffering upon you. Will you promise me ?" " Yes, father." " Very well. 2STow go and see who is knocking at the door. If it's the rate-collector say I'm not at home."
