A new series of readers called the "Southern Cross Headers," for use in schools, have been on exhibition, and have awakened some interest in members. They are highly creditable compilations, and well suited to schools. It was with refeience to these that Mr Percival yesterday asked the Minister of Education whether, in the event of a set of reading books being: printed in the colon y for use in the public schools, and approved by the Department, he would specially I'ecommend Education Boards to adopt them. The Minister replied that the Government have not a great deal to do with settling the book? to be used in che school, Education Boaids having that power ; but if the books were of a suitable character, the Government would be glad to place them on the list of books that could be used in school,.
