The reason the matter had not been attended to before, was on account of the very wot weather experienced of late. The Secretary drew the attention of the Committee to a resolution carried at a previous meeting, viz,, ''That a person be employed to cut up the firewood into s'uita.fcle lengths." The Secretary said when the firewood arrived, Mr Gillies had set the children to cut ,a few 'sticks every morning, and as the wood was now pretty well all cut, he would suggest that the boys bp remunerated. This elicited gome discussion, opinions being pretty eyenly divided, eventually it was propose^ by Mr Wallace, and seconded by Mv Betson, that the boys be paid the sum. of 6s as soon as the work was completed, an amendment by Mr ®raham that the boys receive no | compensation was seconded by Mr Orr. The amendment "was lost, and the resolution carried. The money witi be devoted to tho purchase of a bat, halt, or any other plaything that, the youngsters may desire. Buskiville entered, and apologised for his absence, being unavoidably detained on business. The head tcachifs report stilted thit the roll namberfor the past month wu 98, average attendance, 62.9, laid stress on the low average, and suggested that something should be done to increase the attendance, also stating that th« chemical apparatus had arrived in good order and condition^and thanking the Committee for providing same, adding that the apparatus will be of the greatest assistance for properly teaching the elements of chemistry. She was in the act of letting one of the cows out of thobail, when the cow twisted its head about in order to get free, and whilst doing so the point of the horn entered the fleshy part of Mrs Jenkins arm, inflicting a gaping xtqiim6 h and tearing the flesh considerably. !' "[The wound was at once bandaged up > and a messenger sent for Dr Cooper, • who stitched the injured parts together. Mrs Jenkins is now progressing favourably towards* recovery, but it wilf.bV'some ■weeks before sheoan freely use the injured arm. • .Child Burnt : Distressing accident s At about 11.30 on Tuesday last * most painful accident happened to a little three year old son of Mr Pat. Hogan . It appears the mother had left the house for a few minutes to attend the call of a tradesman, and during her absence the little chap went to the fire and attempted to help himself to the contents of one of the saucepans, and whilst reaching over the fire the ends of a scarf that was round his neck fell right over the blaze and flared up in his face. The criea of the sufferer quickly brought the mother back, when she found him in a terrible plight, the clothes round about his neck being all on fire. She quickly extinguished the flames, removed his clothes, and applied the usual remedies. The Dr was at once sent for, and on examination found the child terribly burnt, especially about the lower part of the face. On making enquiries this morning I learned that the boj was progressing very favourably. Mr Wilson, chemical expert of the Ferguson Syndicate, met with a little adventure about 2 p.m. to-day. He was proceeding up the Lower Track on horseback, and when a little above Mr Young's old place the horses hind legs went right through a culvert. Mr Wilson at once disire inted, and came to the Te Aroha S. and G. M. Company'^ works for assistance. Mr Howell kindly sent a staff of men up to his assistance, and after some little difficulty the horse was got out again. lam glad to say that neither horse nor rider were at all hurt. Mr Emett repaired the culvert this afternoon.
