CADET OFFICERS.

Yesterday afternoon Mr Peldwick asked the Minister of Defence if ho would favoiuably consider the expediency of adding to the volunteer regulations a rule under which cadet officers nob exceed ing two in number may be elected by the members of and attached to each volunteer corps with the proviso that such cadets shall serve 12 months in the ranks, during which period they shall attend afc least three-fourths of the total number of thedi ills and parades ordered for the corps — the said Ccidets afterwards on passing the examination to be eligible for appointment to lieutenancies as vacancies occur. Hon. Mr Fergus replied that if a widespread desire was expressed throughout the corps to obtain cadet officers piovision will be made in that direction.
