PETITIONS.
The following petitions were presented yesterday : —From Tawhia Tawhao, granddaughter of Tamahi Ngahori, of Whatiwhatihoe, praying for relief respecting a block of land claimed by her at Mangare <Mr Taipua): from \Y. M. Hay, of Hamilton, an old soldier, for grant of land (Major Jackson); from William Earl, of Tauranga, for grant of land (Colonel Fraser) ; from J. T. Clarke, of Thames, for grant of land (Col. Eraser); from Patrick Herbert, of Tauranga, for a grant of land (Col. ITraser); from John Donnelly, of Tauranga, for grant of land (Col. Fraser); from Mary A. Fensor, of Tauranga, with respect to certain land at Tepapa, Tauranga (Col. Fra&er).
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS. There is' nothing definite about the vacant position of Sergeant-at-Arms yet, but it is reported that Mr Brachan, once a member of the House, has been given th .refusal of tihe position, ,
