MEETING OF COUNTRY MEMBERS.
Country members to the number of 33 held another meeting: to discuss the representation question this morning, Mr Sey mour presiding. It was mentioned that a requisition promoted bv Mr Lance, and bearing 48 signatuies (four others being promised) had been prepared, for presentation to the Government, asking for the withdrawal of the present Representation Bill. The rea=on for this was that though the Hare system was not necessarily objected to, there was reason to fear that if the Treasure were persisted in, and a induction of the number of members ellectived on the Act of 1887 would not be endangered, as those opposing the reduction could unite with the representatives of the city constituencies to obtain a renewal of the verdict. It was decided that all those present should combine with a view of increasing the advantage to the country districts to 33 per cent. There was a generai feeling that the present Bill with its Hare pystem was doomed, and that the Government would probably withdraw it and introduce a new Bill giving an increased share of representation to the country districts. POINT RESOLUTION EVIDENCE. Sir Geo. Grey is going to move to hav c the evidence of the i'oint Resolution en" quiry printed. It is understood the Go" vernmert resist on the score of the expense which is estimated at £77.
