Mr Goldie asked yosbeiday about the employment of 73 unemployed on the Woodville Railway, ' Hawke's Bay, when the Minister for Public Works informed him that the men referred to were employed as fata ted, but that there was nothing exceptional in it. He thought Auckland had not much reason to complain, as a sum of over £5,000 bad been spent in relief works in that district last year as against some- £3,000 odd in all the other districts of the North Island. Mr (1 oldie now proposes to movo for n return of all moneys spent upon relief works both North and South for the pabt twelve months. NOKTH ISLAND TRUNK RAILWAY. The Wellington membeis are striving to arrange with the Northern members to have the balance vote for the North Uland Trunk Railway divided and spent equally at each cud. So far, the Auckland and TavanaU members refuse to entertain the proposition, holding that it would be mere waste, no useful result being likely to ensue. MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS BILL. This Bill, which has been introduced into the Upper Chamber, has not met with much favour either in the Council or in the press. It provides for the appointment of a Medical Council to advise Registrar as to granting medical certificates. It is regarded as premature and cumbersome. The debate on it, on the motion for its second reading in Council, was adjourned for a week to allow of practitioners in various parts of the colony giving their opinion on the Bill.
