WAIORONGOMAI. [From our own Correspondent.]
Te Aroha S. and G. M. Co,: During ilhe past week considerable alterations have taken place at Hie tailing plant, In consequence of the lining bricks in the cylinder furnace (erected prior to Mr Howell taking charge) continually falling out, and causing much loss .of timp, the manager, Mr Howell, decided to give this furnace a thorough overhaul ; and the centre sections of tlje furnace were taken out, all the old lining bricks removed, and these aiv now being replaced, a largo quantity of n^w ones having" lately amved from Auckland. Tiiese new ones are without exception the finest lot of flre biicks I have ever seen, b^ing very perfect, and beautifully moulded. Longitudinal ribs in short sections are being lo'ted along these sections, something like the furnace in the but' Pry building, only with this exception, that those now being used are dove-tailed, those in the roaster or batleiy l-eirig parallel. When completed it will be a matter of impossibility for the bricks to become loose. The gearing for driving the roaster has also been altered. It will now be diiven what is called direct The cross belt has been dispensed with, and is replaced by bevel wheel gearing. I expect the roastei will start work again about Wednesday or Thursday. The Boss pan plant and about 20 berdans are going' night' and day, motive power being plenlilul since the late rains. At the batteiy a number of caipenters are now employed tfoii q (he necessary wood work in connection with the new 20 head of stampers iti course of erection, all the boxes arc iv position,- and the work oi 6xing the girder's' to the main uprights is now being proceeded with. ]n consequence of the large number of bolts and Other ironwork that will be required for the new stampers, another blacksmith has been put on at the old battery forge. Ferguson fcSyndipate ; Mr Wilson, a gentleman from Scotland, 'arrived here] by train on.Saturday last. I understand j he is to superintend the use of chemicals, in connection with the treatment of ores by the above s\ ndicatc. He has taken up his quarters at Mr John Mace's popular boarding house.
