MINING NEWS. Thames, June 17.

LoneHakd. — The manager hasdiscontinued the eastern drive in the Lone Hand section of the mine, with a view to extending a crosscut to intersect other leaders known to exist ahead, and which run parallel with the leader worked in this main drive. These leaders yielded excellent returns in the level above, and the first of these should be intersected in about 25ft of driving. The stopes continue to produce crushing dirt of good grade, while capital headway is being made with the low level on the General Chute reef. Trenton. — Both drives are being pushed ahead as quickly as possible, but progress is not as rapid as could be desired, owing to the tightness of the country. New Fearxought.— The reef is a compact- body of stone oft in width and of a kindly appearance. Good progress is being made in sinking. The winze is down a depth of 43ft. The country continues of a very kindly description for gold. New Moanataiari. — No gold has as yet been seen, in either of the main ribs of quartz, but a few good strong colours have been met with in some small veins running through the sandstone which intervenes between the two leaders. The ground is still fcigbfc for working, bub appears to be getting better. The surface dirt that passed through the battery last week has been shaping much about the same.
