Miraculous Escape.

-Mb Reuben parr had a most miraculous ! escape from being killed whilst on his wa# home Ins: Saturday evening. It appears, Mr Parr left Te Aroha about five o'clock in a one-horse draj r , loaded with seveuil I sacks of potatoes. All appears to have gone well until about half way to Waihou^ when bv some means not very satisfactorily explained (pi obably through pulling the wiong rein), the left wheel got too near the edge of the deep drain on the roadside, with the result that the horse an! cart were capsized, and fell upside down into the drain. The horse fell partly o i t shoulder, but with the hind legs up. against the bank, and Mr Pair was placed in a most dangerous position, his legs being underneath the- horse's belly, and regularly jammed. Fortunately the horea was a steady one, and Jay quietly ; had it p unged there, can be little doubt Mr Parrwon d have been- skilled thereby, or drowned, a1?a 1 ? the obstruction in the drain caused tlie water to ' back up ' considerably . The first person to come along ta the rescue was Mr .Whitburn, of Kiwitahi, who was on his way to Te- Aroha on horseback, lie tried to release Mr Parr from, his dangerous position, but he was jammed so tightly that" it . was. . impossible to get him out witho.ut assistance, which he went off: to seek 'with all possible ppeed. Mr Jas. Parr and several otheis shortly after came to the rescue, and Mr Parr was got out, wonderful to say, not much the worse for his upst t, beyond being chilled, through Ij'ing in the water. The horse was released asq'iicklyaspossible, and after breaking the shafts struggled to its feet, ani got out on the opposite bank, "the cart and its contents btiug subsequently got out.
