Beeson, and presented Mr G.Devey ( their old Superintendent) with a handsome bible. Mis^ Goldswoithy, in making the presentation, hoped Mr Devey would accept this I It' le present as a small mark of their appreciation of his many amiable qualities ; also of his untiring efforts in carrying on the Sunday School in Wnio lon'jomai, as it is mainly through Mr, D v >y that the School is now in such a flourishing condition. Mr Bevey replied in suitable terms. Accident : An accident of a very painful nature occurred on Monday night lost at the old tailing plant. It appears that Mr George Newman, who was on duty on the evening mentioned, from 4 p.m. till 11 p.m, was engaged about 10 30 p m. in oiling the bearings of the driving shaft of the rotary furnace, and whilst so employed the head of a small bolt, that keeps the collar on the shaft, in revolving caught the bottom of his trousers. Mr Newman tried to extricate himself but in vain ; the trouseis wote strong and would not give way ; the bolt then caught his shoe, and as the on'y chance to save his foot ho threw himself bodily backwards, his head in the fall coming in contact with a large piece of iron immediately beneath him. The blow was so severe that he was unconscious, and lay quite half an hour before being discovered, the other hands at the time being afc their respective duties. As soon as possible Messrs Pogue and Adams were made aware of the nccident, and hurried down and found Mr Newman suffering from a very severe scalp wound on the back of the head. They piomptly attended to him, and siw him safe to his lydginsjs where his wounds were dressed. Mr Newman has so far recovered as tobe able to resume work.
