THE CUSTOMS REVENUE. Wellington, June 1.
The Customs revenue returns for May are not quite complotoi the returns from Kaipara not having yet been received. The rccoipts show that last month £110,032 was collected as against £116,045 for the preceding month, and £143,815 for May, 18S8. Last month the amounts collected at the principal centres were : Auckland, £19,999 ; Wellington, £17,510 ; Lyltolton and Christchurch, £21,275 ; Dunodin, £30,921. For the two months of the financial year which have passed the returns show a deficiency of £28,088 on the Colonial Treasurer's estimate for that period. The boor duty last month was £4, 147 against £4.622 in April, and £3,924 in May, 1888. Of the lirst mentioned amounts Auckland contributed £904 ; Wellington, £416 ; Christchurch, £843 ; Ounedin, £996. (In oach instance shillings and ponce are omitted.)
