Paterson has issued the following challenge to the draughts-players of Australasia :—": — " As the time stipulated under the conditions of the late Centennial Draughts Tournament for retaining the title of draught) champion of Australasia expires next month, without any challenge to contest the title with me being Issued, I hereby wish to state that before retiring from action or prominent play, I will be open to defend my right to style myself champion till the close of the current year of 1889, unless defeated during the interim ; and to test this right, I challengo anyone to play me a match of say 20 games, wins and draws to count, tor the sum of £25, in accordance with the laws of the tournament of 1888. — (Signed) Jas.
