Leave", leaves, beautiful leaves ; ltusset, and gold, and brown ; Fulling in showers o'er the cottage eaves, So gracefully shimmering down ; How memories rise in my heait, As I watch the golden h-avcfi depart ; Ah me 1 how oft the tears will start, Aa I walk mid the fallen leaves. Leaves, leaves, benutifnl lenvnq ; What message luiveye to-day, For the soul that yearns, and tbehe.irt that grieves, O'er its fondest hopes decay ? Will ye bear to the earth a golden shroud, Soft tints ye have borrowed from heavenly cloud, And tenderly soften the footstep loud That treads mid the fallen leaves. Leavep, leaves, beautiful leaves ; Floating and f idling around, Telling of. gdtheied haivest sheaves, And labour with fruitage crowned ; Coming to soften earth's noise and din, Covering kindly life's error and sin, Spreading a mantel of goldpn sheen, A carpet of autumn leaves. Leaves, leaves, beautiful 'eave^ ; Telling of earth-life's wane ; Bringing a truth to the soul that grieves, " We die to live again :" Folding the earth in a soft embrace, Spreading a beautiful resting-place, Where angels meet us f.ice 10 face Mid the beauty of falling leaves.
