Auckland, May 25. The Winter Mooting of tho Takapuna Jockey Club yesterday atfci acted one of the 'arge=t ciowds that ha\e assembled on the coui.se. Though the severalracesdid not produce close finishes, the sport altogether was of an inteiesting chaiacter, and the punctual manner in which the races were got oil to time was a big feather in the cap of the management, and for this, credit especially is due to Mr R. W. Wynyaid, tho indefatigable Secretaiy. Major Gleorgc occupied the judge's bo? , and he pei formed the duties unaided, which we wero glad to see. The only thing that happened to mar the day's pleasure was a nasty spill which Peat son received while liding Recruit in the Steeplechase. The mishap occurred at the spot which has been notorious for so many accidents. Pearson had no bones broken, but he was severely stunned and cut about the face. Rebiilts of the concluding events of tho day are appended :—: — Birthday IlAvmcAr, of SObOvs. Second horse to receive lOsovs out of the stakes. Distttr.ce, 1^ miles. Mi W. Fu ? co was the first, away, followed by Signess, but when about 300 yards had been traversed, Leorina assumed the pride of place. At the back of the course, and up the straight, Fusee, who had been kept borne distance in the rear, made a bold bid for victory, but it was without avail, for Leoiina always had a bit in hand, and won all out by halt-a-length. Audacity finished last. Dividend, £3 10s. Novel Rack, of 30dovs ; winner to be sold immediately alter the lace, and the whole of the proceeds to go to the Club. Lowest weight, Ost 71b. Six furlongs. VVhon the ilag dropped, Le Clair went to the front), followed by Artist, Messenger and Guy Fawkes. Le Clair led the field ab a merry pace round the flab and up tho hill, but when the water jump was reached for the first time Artist had asfcurued pride of place, Messenger, Le Clair, Guy Fawkes, Recruit and J>on following in that Older. There was little alteration in the next round, excepting that Guy Fawkes and Recruit closed up on Artist, who negotiated tho water for the second time with a clear two lengths' lead. Approaching the water jump for the last round, Don improved his position, while Guy Fawkes began to tiro, but Artist was first over the obstacle, closely pressed by Messenger and Reciuit. As the two last-named raced round tho flat, Artist continued to ha\e a plight advantage. The brush hurdle, at tho site of the old slaughter-house, was first taken by Artiot, with Messenger and Kecruit on li is quarter?, butthelatterstumbled on his knees, and brought Pearson down. This left tho linish homo between Artist and Messenger, and the first-named maintaining his position, ran home winner by a couple of lengths.
