WARDEN'S COURT. TE AROHA. TUESDAY, MAY 28th, 1889.
( Before H. W. Northcroffc.Esq, Warden). Application for Protection : Wm. Andrew for four months protection for Ophia claim, Waiorongoraai, one man's ground. Granted, Application for Residence Site : H. Southey, for Section 128, Block 0, Waiorongomai. Granted. Applications for forfeiture by Mining Inspector, for non-working : Lord Nelson Licensed Holding. Walker and Edgar, registered owners, appeared when called on ; and in reply to tho Warden as to why the claim should nob be forfeited, Mr Walker handed in a letter from Mr Pond, giving an assay and report on some of the stone from the claim. Mr Walker also said they had two men employed on tho ground. The Warden : You told me a month ago you were going to lefc a contract at once. From what Mr Pond says iv this letter you have handed in you might as well let the claim go back to the ! mountain, as according to Mr Pond it is worth nothing. Mr Walker : That's Mr Pond's . opinion, but not ours, we still think it worth further prospecting. The Warden to the Mining Inspec- : tor : If I adjourn the hearing for a couple of months, to enable the owners to further prospect the ground what wonld you say to that. Mining Inspector : If your Worship would be lenient and do as you suggest, Mr Walker might succeed in finding something of value in the ground and be prepared to carry on work systematically at the expiration of that term. Adjourned till July 23rd, Ruby Liconsed Holding, T. Goldsworthy and others, owners. With respect to this plaint the Mining Inspector stated the owners had thrown off some 10 ' acres and now retained only 3 acres and 35 perches for working upon, and he wished to withdraw his plaint. Withdrawn. Monte Christo Licensed Holding : H. Brett registered owner, No appearance. Forfeited. , Montezuma Special Claim : P. Faes and C. H. A. Tonge, registered owners, With respect to this plaint the Mining Inspector stated that so far as he could learn the owners had let a contract to cut a reef they knew was in the ground, and which they expected to meet with daily. If they could obtain from that
reef when cut quartz thnfc would pay to■send to Waiorongomai for treatment, it would enable them to put on a number of hands. Some really good work had been clone on the ground, and he would ask for an adjournment. Adjourned till July 23rd. This concluded the business in. the Warden's Court.
