Te Aroha S. and G. M. Co. : The alterations to the ronstor at the old tailing plant (referred to in onr last issue) have now been completed, find the furnace was fired up and set to work again on Wednesday night. Both this revol« ving furnace, and also the new revolving furnnco at the battery are now working; likewise the rererberntory furnace. The erection of the new twenty head of stampers i 3 being steadily proceeded with. The Boss pan plant is also kept noing day and night. The supply of water For motive power is still very deficient. Ferguson Syndicate (formerly New Era Special Claim and Reduction Works): The tender uf Jas. Roycroft was accepted for carting machinery, etc., Jfiom the Waiorongomai Landing to the ! mill site, price 17s 6d per ton. For [ carting kauri timber from where the bush j tramway junctions with the lower Hill Track to the works, the tender of Mr Jas. Orr, has been accepted, price 9d per lOOtt. The machinery has now all been delivered at Waiorongomai Landing, and Air Roycroft is making good progress with the carting of same to the mill site ; and if the weather should continue- fine will piobably have it all up within ten day?. Th" repairs to •the water race from the main creek have been completed, an 1 the repairing of the Premier br.mch water race will probably be finished early next week. At the j mill the excavating for the percolating ! tanks has been completed ; and will allow •a perpendicular fall of twenty feet from the battery l"vel to the "sumps," or; lowest tanks. The cupola calcining fur- i mice, used iv connection with the old plant, has been cut into three sections, an 1 these whon bottomed will be made use of as tanks. An intermediate shaft is being erected near the site of the old furnace (to connect direct with the main <;haft) f from which Nos. 2 and 3, Blaikie stone breakers will bo driven (instead of by a wire rope as formerly). Ample inofive power will be available from the Pelton water wheel erected to drive the New Era pi. int. The tramway is being repaiieJ and ie-l>all.isted ; and the breaks on the s If-.icting grades are being covered in with cor. ugatul iron. The following tenders were received fori'X ending the Phoenix low level tunnel another 100 ft:— Goar I and Murray's per foot, £1 ; Geonje, £1 ; Coll, £1 17s 6d. The fender of Messrs Goard and Murray will be accepted, provided the Syndicate obtain control of that portion cf the tunnel passing through Mr Win, An drews claim (one mans ground ), negotiations with respect to which are now in progress. The Superintendent, Mr P. Ferguson, hopes to have everything in readiness for starting work on the arrival of the expert (a Mr Wilson) who is being sent -out from Home to supervise the treating of the ore, and who may be expected shortly ; and who very probably has already sailed for New Zealand. It is intended to stait work in the Inverness tunnel next week, and to continue the drive south on the reef. Work will also shortly be staited in the Premier mine.
