WAIORONGOMAI.
A MKEriXG of the Waioronsrom.ii Bund of Hope was held in the Public TLill on Tuesday evening. Unfoi tunacfly thn r<iin began to fall hwavily about 7, o'clock, and greatly inteifered with the attendance, as well as with the comfort of those who did venture out. Rev B. Lawry occupied the chair, and Miss Ni::on presided at the cabinet organ. The programme consisted of two part*, the first part being oL the usual oliai actor, viz.: shot adri esses by t,he Chairman, recitations and singing by several of the young people, as well as singing by the Company. Master and Miss liea!y, though by no means hit*-, sang a duet very nicely, and others should be enuouiv aged by their effoits to make essays to entertain their fellow members of the Band of Hope. Thei second part of the entertainment consisted of a. rn-iiric lantern exhibition, under the management of Mr Lovell. The views included illustmtions of the "Tale of ,i tub," <-Tho old m.m and his ass " (jSlsop's fable), » T arioiiH comic views, kaleidoscopic scenes, and many others, The young folks seemed greatly delighted with this part of the proguunme ; but we would just suggest to them that it is possible to thoroughly enjoy one's self without tiying to imitate all the noises of a madhouse A little more moueiation in the u.se of the lungs and feet would be veiy desirable on the next occasion that an entertainment of this kind is given. >At the close of the meeting the Cluiirnvin expressed regret at the piospect of shortly losing Sir Lovell, who h.is so long acted as Secretary to the Band o£ Hope ; and announced that if possible Mr Lovell would arrange for anothei entertainment before leaving.
