Berlin*, May 13. The Westphalia, colliers stubbornly refuse to agree to the conditions of the masters, who are willing to give an increase of wages, but hold out against the eight hoius system. The str ko has resulted in a large number of furnaces at various works being extinguished. The Emperor William will receive a deputation fiom the colliers in a day or two. Tlie stiike fever is affecting aitisans throughout Germany. Forty-two colliers at jtssen have struck.
Bkhlin, May 15. The Emperor William, in the course ot an interview with the leaders of the Westphalia colliery strikes to-day, urged the minerj to resume work. The de'egates.who had a ten-minutes' interview with the Emperor asked him to inquire into their gnevences. The Emperor it-plied that he had already made inquiry, and warned the stnktrs that he: would employ all his greal powers to repress the .socialist agitation ?nri intrigues. He also stated nisi if ihe slightest resistance were m.vie (hey wou'd shoot every man -\\ho di-OiK\ei<. At the same timt\ the Emperor informed the miners that thc-y might protest against the acfon of their employers, if they did so peaceably. The s'nke occasions a daily loss of capitri! amounting to a million marks.
